Achievements in teaching
Monash University is proud of its achievements in teaching and learning. Monash has received wide recognition for its excellence and innovation in teaching and learning. Here are a few examples from 2006:
- Senior lecturer in Indonesian studies Mr Bas Koesasi has received the Widya Samkrama Yasa award from Indonesia's Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta. The award acknowledges Mr Koesasi's distinguished service and contribution to cooperation between Indonesia and Australia in education and training.
- The Education faculty has won a national training and development award for its Master in Counselling degree. The award -- Most Popular Australian Counselling Association-Recognised Training Course -- was given by the association at its national conference in Melbourne.
- Monash has become the first Victorian university to be awarded international business school accreditation by the Brussels-based European Quality Improvement System, EQUIS.
- Professor Steven Langford was awarded the Centenary of Federation Tertiary Teaching award from the Royal Australian Chemical Institute. The award recognises excellence in teaching.
- Dr Michael Ackland, School of English, Communications and Performance Studies, and Associate Professor Bain Attwood, School of Historical Studies have been elected as Fellows of the Australian Academy of the Humanities.
- Monash received the Best Education and Training Collaboration award for 2006 at the Business-Higher Education Round Table Awards. The prize went to a project involving Associate Professor Gordon Sanson, Head of the School of Biological Sciences, Chinese optics company Motic Ltd and Australian Instrument Services Pty Ltd. The collaboration produced what is believed to be the world's first fully interactive, large scale digital teaching laboratory for effective learning of microscopy skills and total class interactive engagement in real time.
